Zoo Promoional Campaign

This is a passion project I developed for a zoo with the goal of not only enticing more visitors to purchase a membership, but also to provide a fun event that draws visitors in. This month long summer scavenger hunt features a wide range of my design skills and is made up of many smaller projects.

Inspiration

The inspiration for this project came from from my own experience attending a college night at a zoo. The zoo allowed college students to stay late for food, games, special keeper talks, and a scavenger hunt surrounding the animal talks.

While attending, I noticed that almost no one participated in the scavenger hunt and instead gravitated towards the games. While reflecting on the event, I began to think of ways I could improve the scavenger hunt and advertise it to potential visitors.

Goals

Develop a memorable experience that seamlessly intertwines with a zoo visit
Create an easier method for visitors to keep track of their progress during the scavenger hunt
Incorporate engaging information about the zoo's animals
Include a reward system to encourage participation in and completion of the scavenger hunt

Social Media Event Anouncement

Progress Badges

To help scavenger hunt participants keep track of their progress during the event, I developed an app prototype which uses badges to reward the visitor for finding and scanning a QR code. The badges will display an illustrated image of animals from the same exhibit the QR code was scanned at.

Prize Pins

The reward for completing the scavenger hunt is one of three limited edition pins. The pins feature three animals the zoo both hosts and works to conserve as well as a new design for a more secure backing.

These limited edition pins will come in packaging that is designed around the zoo and built with the zoo's gift shop and audience in mind.

Membership Calandars

An extra prize awaits zoo members at the end of the completed scavenger hunt; a special wall hanging calendar. Two versions of the member exclusive prize would entice more visitors to become full members of the zoo as well as encourage a repeat of the Summer Scavenger Hunt the next year.
